Falsework
Definition of Falsework
Falsework is a temporary support structure used to hold and shape concrete while it hardens. It is a crucial element in the construction process, providing stability and allowing for the proper placement of reinforcement and formwork.
It acts as a negative mold that defines the final geometry of the structure, supporting not only the weight of the concrete, but also the live loads of workers and machinery during the pouring process.
Uses and characteristics of Falsework
In the current construction industry, the term Falsework is commonly used as a synonym for formwork, especially for concrete structures such as:
- Walls and columns
- Slabs and roofs
- Bridges and infrastructure works
- Stairs and architectural elements
At Construidea® we are experts in falsework and formwork systems offering innovative solutions for residential, building and infrastructure projects in Mexico and Latin America.
Types of Falsework
Classification of falsework systems according to their use, structure and geometry in traditional and modern construction.
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Sliding formwork | System that moves by changing its position, ideal for linear projects such as tunnels or channels where progressive progress is required. |
| Fixed formwork | It has intermediate supports between the abutments or piers of the vault, providing additional stability during construction. |
| Flexible formwork or pickup | It does not have intermediate supports; It is supported only at the ends (stirrups or piles), allowing greater freedom in the design. |
| Parhillera formwork | Specifically used in mine galleries to support the ground during excavation. Its design adapts to underground conditions. |
| Laying formwork | Used in mine galleries, formed by a horizontal layer of stakes on which logs and debris are placed to stabilize the roof. |
| Banked formwork | Its axis is greater than half the chord of the bow. Generates higher and more pronounced arches. |
| Recessed formwork | The height of its axis is less than half the chord of the bow. Produces flatter or lowered arches. |
| Mixed formwork | Combines characteristics: its general frame is collected (without intermediate supports), but then it receives supports such as fixed ones. |
At Construidea® we design and manufacture formwork systems for residential, building and infrastructure projects.
